Statement of Intent

 Magazine

With my magazine, I want to target my magazine to film lovers aged 16-25 and more middle classed. So, I want to make a more broadsheet/more sophisticated looking magazine as to make it stand out from most other film magazines who take a more colourful and bright approach. This is why I'm taking more inspiration from magazines like Time Magazine or Vogue. I will have a large main image to catch possible readers eyes with celebrities they would recognize for both. The font I used is sans serif to give it a more modern look and to keep it sleek. For colour schemes, I have kept it simple, using colours from the main image for the text to make it more bold without enlarging it. The Background is either black and white or grey as to keep the main image the more focal point of the covers and to not distract from them.

For the context pages, I wanted to make sure it was a standard look for each issue whilst also not cluttering it too much. this is why I have gone with the design idea i have of  2/3 text and 1/3 images. This keeps a sleek look to the page and also carries on the theme of a more sophisticated magazine that I wanted. These follow codes and conventions of most broadsheet styled magazines due to it's more sophisticated language and look but changes through the topics being more from pop culture and films which aren't covered like this in any other magazine of this style.

Website
For the website, I wanted to keep a consistent theme of a broadsheet feeling website so I picked a darker and sans serif font'ed theme for the website. The website is also a darker colour theme with mainly black used as I know the age range I have picked for my audience will use dark themes more commonly, so I save them time by using a dark theme. The layout means that its easy to look around the website without getting lost or confused. The news page also allows me to easily add more articles without the flow of the page being disgruntled. The website follows very standard codes and conventions of a website like this format wise as it's simple and easy to navigate but changes visually as it represents a more high end brand's website as to follow the middle class audience as they would visually like it more as it reminds them of things they may buy.

Overall

Comparing the 2 sets of products shows again, the more broadsheet style of things that I wanted to keep over them. For example, the contents page has a similar font to the website. This allows readers of the magazine easily make the connection between the physical magazine and the online website incase imposters arise. It also makes the reader feel more connected to the magazine as they both feel like higher quality magazines as it mimics the style of brands like Gucci or Vogue.
